Circular route through the passes of Mendola, Tonale and Stelvio – 348 KM
To those who like driving in the mountains, South Tyrol offers great possibilities of fun. We are going to tell you about a challenging route that is 348 km long, but that will give you great emotions.
From the hotel, go down towards Merano to take the MEBO highway, up to the level of Appiano. From here, proceed along the Wine Route until you cross, on the right, the juncture to the Mendola Pass – just in front of the Maximode mall.
Here, you will climb up the first ascent of the day. The curves of this road will take you rapidly to the altitude of over a thousand meters, from where you will quickly descend to the Non Valley. Continue along the nice landscapes of the valley until you arrive in Cles where you will enter the Sole Valley.
Cross the whole valley to climb towards Tonale – the second planned pass of the itinerary. Once you are over the pass, you will be in Lombardy and you will have to head first for Bormio, and then for Livigno. If you want to shorten the route, in Bormio you can take highway 38 that will lead you into the heart of the Ortler scenery, but remember to check if it is viable.
Once you have reached Livigno, you have to cross over Switzerland, surrounded by the beauty of the Swiss National Park, to consequently proceed towards Prato allo Stelvio. At this point, you just have to follow the Venosta Valley in the direction of the hotel, passing through Merano.
