Relaxation and well-being at the Merano Thermal baths
The history of Merano is closely linked to that one of its Thermal baths.
Indeed, the spa town is now one of the most popular destinations of the Burggrafenamt. It owes its foundation in 1836 to Merano’s mild climate, that had a healing effect on people suffering from various diseases.
The thermal baths turned Merano into one of the most prominent tourist resorts of Austro-Hungarian Empire, as well as in the 30s and in the after-war period, thanks to the discovery of radon-rich waters on Mount San Vigilio.
These waters have been utilized since 1972 at the spa center, built by the S.A.L.V.A.R. (Radioactive Water Processing Equity Company).
Nowadays, the District of Bolzano governs the Merano thermal baths at 99,8%, and it has recently constructed a new establishment on the banks of River Passer.
On a total area of 7,650 m², one can find 25 indoor and outdoor pools, as well as saunas and spa treatment rooms.
The pools are accessible daily from 9.00 am to 10.00 pm, while the saunas are open from 01.00 pm to 10.00 pm from Monday to Friday, and on weekends – from 9.00 am.
