Irrigation Ditches, Leitenschenke

Thanks to its central position, the Marling canal is reachable in a quarter of hour on foot, directly from Hotel Lisetta. With its 12 km, making it the longest canal of its kind, that one of Marling is also called “the Queen of canals”.

This trail was created in 1737 by a group of Carthusian monks.

Along the flat route crossing orchards and vineyards, you can enjoy a wonderful view of the valley of Merano and the surrounding mountains. After passing by the town of Marling, you reach Cermes. In the middle of the canal, more or less, around the eighth kilometer, there is a panoramic restaurant – “Leitenschenke” – managed by Sonja and her husband Tobias. Here, on the terrace, we can enjoy the sun while tasting Tyrolean specialties, home-made ice-creams, and delicious typical pastries. After an abundant and satisfying meal, we miss only two kilometers to get to Lana. From here, we go down the main road and start the return towards Dorf Tirol and Hotel Lisetta.

Altitude difference 200 m (downhill – from the canal towards Lana)
Altitude between 300 and 490 meters
Total distance 12 km
Walking time 3 hours
